05: Men and Mer (and Everybody Else)

In our fifth episode we continue our previous discussion about the creation of Mundus, by talking about where the many varied races of Tamriel come from. It is also our longest podcast to date, so make sure you have around 35 minutes to spare when you sit down to listen. You also might make sure you have a map of Tamriel in front of you, so that you can get a good idea of where all of this is going down.

You can listen to the podcast by using the widget above, or right-clicking here to save it. You can also add our RSS feed (http://bit.ly/K6v76V) to your iTunes to download new episodes automatically, or you can find it on the iTunes Store by searching for Elder Lore in the podcast section.

  1. You were off on the shadowscale thing. It doesn’t have to do anything with the dark brotherhood. The shadowscale are the argonian kings personal assassins. You get to meet 2 (I think) on oblivion. They are tied up to a dark brotherhood side quest.

    • If you can provide some kind of proof of this, I would be glad to see it! As far as I know, the Shadowscales are inducted into the Dark Brotherhood. There is one you can meet in Skyrim (Veezara). Also, as far as I am aware (which might be wrong) the Argonians never had Kings.

There are two Shadowscales in Oblivion, and one of them (Teinaava) tells you this: “In the Argonian homeland of Black Marsh, those born under the sign of the Shadow are taken at birth and presented to the Dark Brotherhood. A Shadowscale hatchling is trained in the arts of stealth and assassination, and lives a life in service to the mighty kingdom of Argonia. Any Shadowscale who lives to come of age is accepted into the Dark Brotherhood as a full member of the family. So it was with myself, and Ocheeva.”

  2. I’m loving the series, and hope you keep making more, but there was one discrepancy that I noticed. You said the Imga emulate the Bosmer, but I thought they actually strive to be like the Altmer. I could be wrong, but from what I’ve read they shave and powder their skin to look like the Altmer, and consider them the only race better than themselves.

  3. Recently started listening to your podcast while programming. I am working with a friend on a mod, and wanted to advance my education on the ES lore. Your podcast is a pleasant listen and you explain things quite well! Keep it up!
